Hand-Editing a Plan Before You Approve It

Claude Code proposes a multi-file plan in plan mode, and you want to tweak two of the steps yourself — not by typing chat feedback, but by directly editing the plan text.

What do you press?

Solution

The correct answer is "Ctrl+G, which opens the plan in your editor."

Ctrl+G hands the proposed plan to your editor so you can revise it directly before approving, which is faster than describing the change in chat and having Claude regenerate the whole plan. Esc exits or stops an action rather than opening an editor, there's no "approve or reject only" restriction — hand-editing is exactly what this shortcut is for — and /rewind restores previous checkpoints, it doesn't reopen a not-yet-approved plan for editing.
